In what is a nice counter balance to our million dollar computerized wood working machines, we just added a piece of mechanical history to our arsenal.
This is a a Rockwell Direct Drive Thickness Planer, built (we think) around the 1920s. We'd challenge any planer built today to a contest with this machine. It will finish wood up to 24" wide and have it come out baby butt smooth.
The basis of producing quality furniture is knowing how to combine the skills of people, the automation of today's tech and the occasional reach back to a time when life and the machines used to build it were a little simpler.
